Usability

What is web usability?

Web usability relates to how easy it is for a user to complete tasks on a web site. Key areas include:

  • Navigation - Getting around a web site.
  • Ease of process - Placing an order or making a booking etc.
  • Direction - Easy to view information.

Why is it important?

If your web site isn't usable visitors will go elsewhere. It is good business sense to have a usable web site.

Unfortunately many web designers, especially those who operate in the small business sector, do not take web usability into consideration when designing a web site. Sometimes this is due to ill informed direction, and at other times its because the designer has no experience in "real world" web design. Whatever the reason, it is very damaging to business.

What can be done?

If your web site visitors are experiencing problems or you notice lack of sales due to non completion of order process then it would be a good idea to have a usability audit completed. Such an audit can be carried out on a particular process or page of a web site or the web site as a whole. Prices depend on the size and complexity of a page/process/web site.

The usability audit can give your designers and/or developers an insight as to how users are actually seeing a web site, rather than what they may perceive, and we are happy to work along side them to offer advice and solutions. Please see our consultancy page for more details.
