My Telephone Message Service is Broken!

All I can do is apologise and rectify the problem as soon as possible.

If you’ve tried to phone me since the beginning of August 2019 and left a message, I won’t have received it. Sorry.

Please try again, but please don’t leave a message as that will be a waste of your time.

Once the problem is resolved, I’ll remove this post and service will be back to normal.

How this Happened

We all rely on technology to get us through our working day. Sometimes it fails us…

I started my annual leave at the beginning of the month, and to keep people informed I changed my answerphone message. Comfortable in the knowledge that people wouldn’t think I’d ignored them, I went on my holiday.

I use a VOIP service for phone calls, and if someone leaves a message I normally receive an email with the message attached. I noticed during my holiday I didn’t receive any messages, but as I had informed all my customers that I would be away, and August is normally a quiet time for me, I thought nothing more of it. I returned refreshed and ready to get stuck into work.

Then I started getting calls from people asking why I hadn’t got back to them, which was very uncomfortable. I pride myself on my customer service, after all it’s the foundation of my work, so I determined to get to the bottom of the issue.

It turns out that when I changed my message, my VOIP provider had a technical glitch, which remains unresolved. The upshot is, calls are not recorded, messages are not sent, and I’m unable to turn the message service off.

What I’m Doing to Rectify the Issue

I’m trying to change VOIP provider, which should be a relatively simple task. However, getting my phone number released from the old provider has become an issue. At present I’m in limbo. I could change my phone number, but that presents all sorts of problems, so it is worth persevering to try and get things resolved one way or another.

In the mean time, please don’t leave a message as I won’t receive it.

Sorry for the inconvenience this has caused. If you have tried to get in touch and I haven’t got back to you, please do try again.
